Why Is It So Hard to Find a PMHNP Preceptor?
Finding a PMHNP preceptor is one of the hardest challenges in any nurse practitioner program, and it's not because you're not trying hard enough. NP education depends on clinicians volunteering to train the next generation, while giving them almost no time, compensation, or institutional support to do it.
No compensation for precepting.
Most PMHNP preceptors receive little or no pay for the hours they spend onboarding, supervising, and reviewing documentation. Without incentives, many simply opt out.

Even when clinicians want to precept, roughly one in three are blocked by corporate policies, productivity expectations, or liability rules.
