All-ages means supervising pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics, across preventive care, chronic disease, and acute visits, and it carries a real-time commitment, averaging 136 clinical hours per rotation. Many clinicians find an all-ages student more demanding to teach than a single-population specialty rotation, so fewer offer it.
California clinics are already at capacity:
High patient volume, short appointment windows, and heavy administrative load leave most providers no room to add a student. Even willing preceptors say no, because a student slows them down and most receive no pay for teaching.
